Sarah Tynan on Il turco in Italia
Renowned British soprano Sarah Tynan was one of a trio of top soloists in our 2016 collaboration with Rambert, The Creation. In 2017 she returns to sing a very different role; that of Fiorilla in Rossini's comedy, Il turco in Italia.
I love learning new roles like Fiorilla. It's a slow process of discovery which involves so much more than learning the notes and the text. The 'facts' of the character - what the story tells us about them, the things they say and don't say, and what other characters say about them, are like a giant puzzle. Then there's Rossini's glorious music and all the expression and nuance that he so brilliantly penned, and his expectation that the singer would then embellish the music further with variations and ornaments. This is all part of the preparation that is done before we even step into the rehearsal room!
Then in six months' time, with the wit and most delicate touch of both Martin Duncan and David Parry we will put all the pieces together. And what a pleasure to be able to bring this Italian romp to life in the stunning surroundings of the Wormsley Estate for Garsington Opera. I can't wait!
We have put together a gallery of the best images from our 2011 production of Il turco in Italia.
