Roderick Williams on Eugene Onegin

We are delighted to welcome award-winning baritone Roderick Williams to Garsington Opera for our 2016 season in the title role of Eugene Onegin. We spoke to him about his role debut, working with the ‘two Boyds’ and what he is looking forward to about performing with the rest of the cast.

For any lyric baritone the role of Eugene Onegin is an absolute must and I am thrilled and hugely excited finally to be singing the role on stage and in Russian. It will be nothing short of a privilege to work with the two Boyds - Douglas and Sir Michael - on this opera and I can’t wait to see how the project develops.

Garsington has assembled a terrific cast and I look forward to gaining cultural insight from my Eastern European colleagues. And of course I’m impatient to get started on Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score and explore Pushkin’s supercilious hero.
