Life-changing opportunities for Primary Schools
Following the enormous success of Silver Birch - the large-scale people's opera at Wormsley in 2017 - Garsington Opera is proud to announce the launch of a new programme of activity within our Learning & Participation Programme: a brand new Primary School Opera Company.
“It unlocked a part of me I never knew was there!”
Chloe (Primary Company)
The Primary Opera Company has been made possible by a transformative donation from Helen Hamlyn Trust, enabling Garsington Opera to provide life-changing opportunities for young members of our community. 50 children in the Primary Opera Company will be given access to world-class participatory workshops with artists from Garsington Opera in two residencies every year, culminating in a performance with the existing Youth Opera Company in August at Wormsley.
The style of workshop that has been developed by Karen Gillingham (Creative Director, Learning & Participation) uses music and drama as tools for personal and social change, encouraging self-expression, communication, creative exploration and the discovery of new skills.
This new group will complete the framework of engagement that Garsington Opera offers to the local community through the Learning & Participation Programme, providing routes for progression through the Primary Opera Company, the Youth Opera Company and finally the Adult Opera Company. We are committed to evaluating the impact and progress of our work in all spheres so that plans can be improved and adapted to meet local need and ensure provision for those who will benefit most.
