Insight Talks 2017 - Learn more about this year's operas

Leonard Wolfson Auditorium

Led by specialist scholars, with members of the cast, creative teams and with excerpts performed by singers from the Alvarez Young Artists’ Programme, our Insight Talks are designed to offer historical context and musical insight to enhance your enjoyment of the operas in the summer.

Insight Talks are £15 and will start at 7pm, with guests invited to join us for a glass of wine from 6.30pm.

Le nozze di Figaro Tuesday 4 April 2017

Where is Allemonde? On Debussy's (Un)French Opera. An exploration of the influences on Pelléas et Mélisande, including Wagner, Massenet, Mussorgsky and the Pre-Raphaelites.

What do you do if you are stuck for a story? Answer: hurry down to a Neapolitan beach and see what the locals are doing. That is the basic plotline of Il turco in Italia. A novelist hides behind the deckchairs and watches the confusion unfold. And if the plot ever looks like it will be resolved, the novelist is on hand to ensure it isn't...
