Garsington Opera Chorus
A hub of talent, energy and commitment, the Garsington Opera Chorus is selected from the most gifted young singers who audition each year for this prestigious opportunity. With many of them newly graduated from, or still studying at, leading British conservatoires, it forms a central part of the company. Opportunities during the season include working with world-class conductors, directors, choreographers and designers as well as performing alongside renowned and inspiring principal artists.
In addition, many members of the Alvarez Programme has at least one understudy or small role, so they can also rehearse as a soloist. These rehearsals culminate in a full run for each understudy cast in front of Garsington's artistic team, and a showcase in London for agents and other talent scouts or casting professionals. In addition, one understudy team will mount a full performance of one of the productions with orchestra for a local schools' audience.
Each year, under the guidance of Garsington Opera's Head of Music, the new members of the Chorus are supported in their career development through the advice and encouragement of guest speakers from the opera business. They are also given the opportunity to showcase individual talent in the Green Theatre Recitals which take place every Saturday of the season (weather permitting) in the Walled Garden.
We are delighted to see many former Chorus members return in future years for their principal role Garsington debuts as they continue their professional journey.
