Community Companies' Performance, 2018

On Friday 3 August 2018 a special performance took place on stage at Wormsley when our Adult Company and Youth Company presented two exciting works: The Bureau of Lost Things and Eliza and the Swans.

The evening commenced with The Bureau of Lost Things, performed by a 38-strong company in which the Garsington Opera Adult Company were joined by All Together Singing, a choir of residents form sheltered accommdation in North London. This 30-minute piece, based on Mozart's The Magic Flute, was created by Vocal Director Lea Cornthwaite and Director Hazel Gould, who worked alongside the performers to devise this simple story of people overcoming challenges to find the precious things they have lost.

The Garsington Opera Youth Company, comprising 66 young people aged 9-21 from Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and beyond, performed Eliza and the Swans - a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Wild Swans. The opera was written by John Barber (composer) and Hazel Gould (librettist). The Company were joined by eight children from Ibstone Primary School, who worked through their Easter and summer holidays to prepare. The Youth Company has recently expanded to include a wider range of ages with YC1 for ages 9-13 and YC2 for ages 13-21. They were joined by players from the Garsington Opera Orchestra in the pit.
