Wormsley, home of the Getty family, is a 2500-acre estate and 18th century country house nestling in the rolling, verdant countryside of the Chiltern Hills near Stokenchurch. Complete with lake and deer park, it is an English country estate on a grand scale and yet it is secluded and sheltered by the wooded slopes that enclose it.
This beautiful two-acre 18th century Walled Garden is a short journey from the Opera Pavilion, via our vintage shuttle bus, and a wonderful place to visit and enjoy a glass of champagne before the performance.
An exact replica of The Oval, Wormsley has been described as having the most beautiful cricket ground in England. Our restaurant marquees and tea lawn overlook the immaculate pitch and the sloping Chiltern Hills beyond.
A short walk from the Champagne Bar, the Opera Garden was specially designed for us by Hannah Gardner, Head Gardener at Garsington Manor, and evokes the fragrant, summer surroundings of Garsington Opera’s original home.
You will find our shop tent close to the Opera Pavilion in the deer park. Our special range includes Garsington Opera Brora rugs, specially designed silk scarves, bespoke Emma Bridgewater opera picnic plates, opera postcards and much more, all sold exclusively during the festival.
“The wooded hills rolling towards the horizon, the manicured lawns and delightful rose arbour, the swallows circling the lake, the famous cricket ground: all this ravishes the eye as you stand on the terraces surrounding the stunning opera pavilion.” The Times
