Announcement: The Board of Garsington Opera

Garsington Opera announces succession with appointment of new Chair of the Board in 2023.

Garsington Opera is pleased to announce that Miranda Curtis CMG, currently Deputy Chair of the Board, will succeed Bernard Taylor CBE DL DCL as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Garsington Opera from January 1st, 2023.

Miranda joined our Board in 2011 and has supported many Garsington productions over the years, including The Cunning Little Vixen, Idomeneo, Intermezzo, Semele, the world premiere of The Skating Rink, The Turn of the Screw, and Amadigi. In 2022 Miranda is the lead production supporter for Garsington’s community opera, Dalia.

Bernard Taylor commented: “I am delighted that Miranda will succeed me as Chair, thus maintaining long-term continuity and allowing the company to build on its many creative successes and its work with young artists and with its two community opera companies. Miranda is as convinced as I am about the importance to Garsington Opera’s future of our long-standing project to build the new Arts Hub which is due to be completed, after I have retired, next summer. I wish her great success and much enjoyment in her new role as Chair.”

Miranda added: “I am honoured to take over leadership of the Garsington Board from Bernard, who during his tenure has overseen the very successful move from Garsington Manor to Wormsley, and the company’s growing reputation for creative excellence under the artistic leadership of Douglas Boyd and Executive leadership of Nicky Creed. Our new Arts Hub will allow us to strengthen and reinforce the scope of Garsington Opera’s operational and artistic activities, to expand our young artists’ programme, and to develop our learning and participation and community projects. I look forward to helping the company steer this game-changing project to completion.”

Douglas Boyd, Artistic Director, and Nicky Creed, Executive Director, said: “We are both delighted that Miranda will be taking over as Chair. We are delighted that we will continue to develop our exciting artistic vision for Garsington with Miranda at the helm.”

When Miranda assumes the role of Chair next January, she will be succeeded as Deputy Chair by Neil King QC, also a long-standing member of the Garsington Board.

In addition, Garsington Opera is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Board members, with effect from July 7th, 2022: Lady Stringer, Chair of the Garsington Opera Development Campaign, and Annette Campbell-White, Chair of the American Friends of Garsington.
