Your Festival Experience

There is much to enjoy during a visit to Garsington Opera. The grounds are open from 3.30pm on each performance day and we encourage you to arrive early and experience the Walled Garden, the Deer Park or afternoon tea overlooking the famous Wormsley Cricket Pitch.

Walled Garden

A man and a woman walking through a walled garden

Take a short journey in a complimentary bus to the beautiful 18th century Walled Garden and explore its four contrasting quarters.

Dating back to the mid-1700s, Wormsley’s original Walled Garden was created by Richard Woods, a contemporary of Capability Brown.

Having been somewhat neglected for the best part of a century, the gardens were reinvigorated. Re-imagining the space into four garden rooms, each with a different purpose, The Walled Garden was redesigned with sections for flower and vegetable gardens, producing wonderful floral displays for cricket, the opera, and the main house, as well as fruit and produce for the wider estate.

Boundary Room Restaurant

Looking out of the iconic Wormsley Cricket Ground, our restaurant boasts one of the most stunning views in Britain. Serving afternoon tea pre-performance, and fine-dining during the long interval, the Boundary Room Restaurant is the perfect location for those who wish to enhance their experience.

Deer Park

The Deer Park is at the heart of the Garsington Opera season. With the Opera Pavilion overlooking the park, the mown paths are lined with picnic tents, both private and shared for those who wish to picnic, and tables overlooking the lake offering a tranquil spot for a self-catered picnic in the evening sun.

Champagne Bar

A perfect meeting place, with views over the deer park, the Champagne Bar is on the Lower Terrace of our award-winning Opera Pavilion. Wide steps lead you to pathways to the lake and picnic tents, and the elevated bridge takes you to the Opera Garden, which evokes the fragrant, summer surroundings of our original home at Garsington Manor.

Upper Terrace

Four people having their meal at a picnic table on the upper terrace with the picturesque landscape of the lake and hills in the background

Climb the stairs from the Champagne Bar to the upper terrace and you will be treated to the most spectacular panoramic views across the Wormsley Estate and the enveloping Chiltern Hills. Picnic tables, with wooden benches, can be reserved on the upper terrace.
