COMMUNITY OPERA

We are developing plans for a ‘community opera’ to be performed as part of the Opera Festival in July 2013, to bring together and celebrate all strands of our work.

The piece will involve over 100 children, young people and adults from the area to perform alongside professional singers and musicians.

A composer and librettist have been commissioned to write the piece in response to themes and ideas developed in interactive workshops with each of these groups.

In keeping with the community theme, we are planning to hold a mini 'arts festival' before and after performances, close to the Opera Pavilion.

Recruitment will begin in Autumn 2012. Primary schools that have worked with us since we moved into the area will be invited to nominate themselves to take part. Recruitment workshops for the youth chorus and adult chorus will be held intermittently from September 2012 to February 2013.

PAST PROJECTS...

Carol Singing

Two carol singing events were held in High Wycombe in December 2011. Participants learnt unusual and lesser-known carols with vocal animateur Lea Cornthwaite and singers Ellie Moran and Rob Gildon, and then performed them a week later, alongside better-known carols, during the celebration event. We were thrilled with the turnout of 75 people, almost double the previous year’s attendance.

Aude, Vide, Tace
community devising project

Twenty local adults were involved in a six week project in summer 2011, with sessions held in Turville Village Hall. Creative writing exercises, exploring the themes of Reason, Nature and Wisdom from The Magic Flute, were used to generate text which vocal animateur and composer Lea Cornthwaite set to music  specifically for the group to perform in the Green Theatre at Wormsley.
