GARSINGTON OPERA AT WORMSLEY

Garsington Opera moved to the Wormsley Estate, home of the Getty family, in 2011. An expanse of rolling, verdant parkland, complete with lake and deer, it is an English country estate on a grand scale, and yet it is kept secluded by the wooded slopes that enclose it.

It sits on the border of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire in the Chiltern Hills and lies close to Oxford, under an hour from London along the M40 and only 15 miles from Garsington Manor.

The heart of Garsington Opera’s new home is an elegant and specially designed Opera Pavilion erected annually amidst Wormsley’s glorious landscape, housing the stage, the orchestra, auditorium and terraces.

The move to Wormsley was made possible by the generosity of our members, collectively giving £3.5 million to our Relocation Appeal. We are extremely grateful to all our donors, without whose generosity we could not have achieved this.

Garsington Opera’s audiences have always been attracted by the promise of opera of the highest quality in an outstandingly beautiful setting. Wormsley offers an English pastoral scene of great splendour.

WORMSLEY
Wormsley is a 2,500-acre traditional country estate in the Chiltern Hills. The philanthropist Sir Paul Getty II acquired Wormsley in 1986. Over the following years he set about restoring the mansion, cottages, farm and estate buildings.

Sir Paul Getty II died in 2003. Wormsley passed to Mark Getty, who now welcomes Garsington Opera to the estate.
